Annual Koc Lecture

Stanford University's Mediterranean Studies Forum and Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies are launching an annual lecture series in collaboration with Center for Globalization and Democratic Governance (GLODEM) at Koc University in Istanbul, Turkey. As part of this three-year project, affiliated faculty members from each academic center will visit the other institution for a week, delivering a public lecture and meeting with affiliated faculty and students. The extended visits aim to create a wide-ranging exchange of ideas and also explore interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities between faculty and student affiliates of the participating centers.

The first lecture of the series at Stanford will be delivered Prof. Ziya Onis on November 13, 2012 about "The Triumph of Conservative Globalism: The Political Economy of the AKP Era." Prof. Onis will also present an academic seminar, titled "Turkey and the Arab Spring: Between Ethics and Self-Interest" on November 15, 2012. In March 2013, Prof. Shahzad Bashir and Prof. Robert Crews will visit GLODEM to discuss their recent co-edited volume Under the Drones: Modern Lives in Afghanistan-Pakistan Borderlands.

Event details will soon be available on our website. Stanford faculty and students interested in meeting with Prof. Onis during his residency at Stanford can contact the Mediterranean Studies Associate Director Dr. Burcak Keskin-Kozat at medstudies [at] stanford.edu (medstudies[at]stanford[dot]edu).
