Protests in Turkey

Three of our faculty affiliates reflect on the Gezi Park protests that have emerged in Turkey since May 2013.  Ayca Alemdaroglu (Stanford Introductory Studies) discussed in her Stanford Report interview and her Jadalliya article how demonstrations over plans to bulldoze an Istanbul park turned into a broader indictment of the government. Ali Yaycioglu(Department of History) reflected in his Stanford Daily article on the questions of inclusion and exclusion raised by the protests. Alexander Key (Department of Literature) discussed in his ARCADE article the similarities and differences between the Gezi Park protests, the Arab Spring, and the Occupy Movement.
